Sanaterre
Shuffling towards sustainability

What is Sanaterre?

Sanaterre is currently one person - Stephen Johnson. I set the site up as a repository of environmental links, my research activities and as a vehicle for my part-time, freelance consultancy activities (environmental, technical and web design) while I was studying for my Ph.D. at Edinburgh University. It may one day evolve into a fully fledged environmental consultancy business. Or it may not. Either way, it exists.

For details of my education and employment see my Curriculum Vitae.

Why Sanaterre?

From my limited knowledge of latin:

Sana = healthy

Terra = land

(yes, I know "Terre" is French, but Sanaterra (or even Terra Sana) didn't have the same ring to it)

so "Healthy Land", reflecting my interests in remediation of contaminated soil and ground water.

The logo

The single serpent coiled round a staff (the staff of Aesculapius, not to be confused with the two serpents on the caduceus of Mercury/Hermes) is an ancient symbol of healing. Remove the staff, replace it with the axis of Planet Earth and...voila.
