From 2000-2003 I carried out research at the University of Edinburgh and Napier University into the degradation of linear alkylbenzene cable oils in soil and ground water. This led to the submission of a Ph.D. thesis entitled "Microbial degradation of linear alkylbenzene cable oil in soil and aqueous culture under aerobic and anaerobic conditions" in September 2003 which I successfully defended in December 2003.
My work was supervised jointly by Professor D. Andrew Barry in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (now Institute for Infrastructure and Environment) at Edinburgh University; and Professor Nick Christofi in the School of Life Sciences, Napier University. The project was coordinated through the Contaminated Land Assessment and Remediation Research Centre (CLARRC). The work was funded by National Grid Transco, plc.
